Dolphin Energy Showcases Environmental Commitments at COP18/CMP8

Dolphin Energy Limited, Qatar has been showcasing its achievements and initiatives at the Qatar Sustainability Expo 2012 currently being held at Doha Exhibition Center.

Running since 27th November, 2012 the Expo is being held in conjunction with the historic two-week United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change COP18/CMP8 which will close on December 7th.

Dolphin Energy has demonstrated its strong commitment to the environment at the Energy and Industry pavilion through a combined display stand. The company introduced new initiatives and highlighted QHSE standards and environmental performances addressing emissions management, energy reduction, flaring minimization, greenhouse gases emissions accounting and reporting.

Dolphin Energy‘s General Manager in Qatar, Mr. Adel Ahmed Albuainain, expressed his pride with what the company has achieved saying:

“Environmental stewardship and sustainable development performance are at the core of our operation. Dolphin Energy is committed to running its operations in an environmentally conscious manner that minimizes the impacts on the natural environment.

“Our goal is to continuously reduce the level of greenhouse gases (GHG) and emissions across all our business processes. As such, Dolphin Energy has undertaken many initiatives and we will continue to look for ways to add to our contribution and support towards the Qatar National Vision 2030.”

Since its inception, Dolphin Energy has incorporated the Best Available Technology (BAT) and adopted the Best Practicable Environmental Option (BPEO) into the design of its facilities. These initial investments have helped Dolphin Energy to minimize overall environmental impacts in general, and air emissions in particular.

The Technical Poster which has been on display for the public at COP18 showcases the company’s management approach towards a safe and clean environment. It was divided into six categories: Flaring Reduction, Energy Consumption, Climate Change and GHG Emissions Gas Emissions, Green IT Initiative and Employee Engagement.

“In 2011, Dolphin Energy reduced its flaring by 33%; this significant reduction resulted in record-low flaring figures since steady operations began in 2008. Dolphin Energy continues to research and pursue opportunities to further reduce its flaring rates and its carbon footprints,” added Mr. Albuainain.

“We have also taken great strides in how we minimized energy consumption, both in the use of heat recovery steam generator units, introducing a set of proactive measures to optimize energy consumption of our IT systems and promoting environmental awareness and education both in the community and across the company,” he concluded.
