Dolphin Energy Participates in Abu Dhabi International Book Fair

Abu Dhabi - March 17, 2009

Demonstrating its commitment to support cultural programs in Abu Dhabi, Dolphin Energy today announced its participation as platinum sponsor of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.

The event has attracted more than 482 publishers from more than 50 countries. Among the highlights of this year’s event are the International Prize for Arab Fiction and the Sheikh Zayed Book Award which has received more than 600 entries from 26 countries.

Commenting on the importance of Dolphin’s participation, Mr. Ibrahim Al Ansari, General Manager – UAE, Dolphin Energy, said: “This event provides a perfect platform for the emirate to further its ambitions to become a leading destination for arts and culture. Our involvement endorses those plans and complements our commitment to programs that create cultural understanding and awareness. Our track record in supporting initiatives of this nature is well known.”

Visitors to the Dolphin Energy stand, which is located at AT36 in the Atrium area of the conference hall, will be able to view two important publications that were commissioned by Dolphin Energy.

The first is titled ‘Dolphin’ and comprises more than 150 unique color photographs of dolphins – taken all over the world – feeding, playing, whistling and jumping. There are also many classic shots of dolphins from the Arabian Gulf.

‘Dolphin’ was published to commemorate the occasion of Dolphin Energy’s first gas production and supply to the UAE in July 2007  – as well as to celebrate ‘The Year of the Dolphin’ which was declared by the United Nations in the same year.

The second book entitled ‘CORAL’ describes a pioneering three year investigation of regional coral habitats & status growths. The book reviews the extensive range of coral reefs lying in Abu Dhabi and eastern Qatari waters.

CORAL records and maps the reefs, assesses their condition – and the potential for recovery of the degraded systems – and explains how teams of national researchers in both Qatar and Abu Dhabi were recruited and trained.

“Both books illustrate Dolphin’s commitment towards furthering awareness of the need for environmental protection and the conservation of marine life. Safeguarding natural habitats is a responsibility we take extremely seriously,” concluded Mr. Al Ansari.

The event is taking place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) and runs until 22 March 2009.
