HH Emir of Qatar Emphasizes Importance of UAE Ties and Dolphin's Growing Gas Exports to Abu Dhabi
Dolphin Energy Limited, the Abu Dhabi based company now producing gas in Qatar and exporting it by pipeline to the UAE, was today congratulated on its role by His Highness the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Delivering his official address to the 6th Doha Conference on Natural Gas (DCNG), Sheikh Hamad stated that the Dolphin Gas Project was one of the largest and most important energy ventures ever undertaken in the region. He said that it was also valuable in strengthening existing and future good relations between Qatar and the UAE. Sheikh Hamad additionally highlighted that Dolphin Energy has been delivering gas to the UAE since July.
Dolphin began gas exports from Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar to the UAE on July 9 through its 364 kilometer export pipeline, the longest and largest in the Middle East: current throughput is averaging 1 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day.
In his own speech at DCNG, Qatar’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy and Industry, HE Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah, congratulated Dolphin for its production and export of gas to the UAE. He then proceeded to the nearby DCNG Exhibition to inaugurate the Dolphin Energy pavilion.
Dolphin senior management who welcomed the Minister to the stand included Ibrahim Ahmed Al Ansari, General Manager UAE; Adel Ahmed Albuainain, General Manager Qatar; Ibrahim Al Kuwari, Deputy General Manager Qatar; Graham Rae, Vice President HSE; Philippe Persillon, Vice President Projects and Ajlan Al Enazi, Government Affairs Manager, Qatar.
Dolphin Energy Limited
Dolphin Energy Limited was created to develop substantial energy projects throughout the GCC and to create long-term economic wealth and new business opportunities for GCC citizens, far into the future.
Dolphin Energy’s major strategic initiative, the Dolphin Project, involves the production and processing of natural gas from Qatar’s North Field, and transportation of the dry gas by sub-sea export pipeline from Qatar to the UAE, which begun in July 2007.
The long term customers for Dolphin gas from Qatar are ADWEA (Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority), UWEC (Union Water & Electricity Authority), DUSUP (Dubai Supply Authority) and from 2008 OOC (Oman Oil Company). Each has signed a gas supply agreement with Dolphin Energy for 25 years.
Dolphin Energy is owned 51 percent by Mubadala Development Company, on behalf of the Government of Abu Dhabi – and 24.5 percent each by Total of France and Occidental Petroleum of the USA.
