Dolphin Energy And Qatar University Conduct Detailed Coral Reef Survey At Ras Laffan

Abu Dhabi - June 15, 2003

Dolphin Energy Limited is working with the University of Qatar on a detailed survey of coral reefs around Ras Laffan in northern Qatar, it was announced this week.

DEL has employed the services of the University’s Scientific and Research Center (SARC) to make a full environmental impact assessment of the area in which its future gas pipelines will be laid.

Yousif Al Khater, Deputy General Manager of Dolphin Energy in Qatar, said: “We need to determine the current condition of the coral, so that we can organize suitable protection methods along the pipeline routing. As you may imagine, the construction of our various future pipelines will require careful management, in order for us to preserve the local subsea environment.”

Mr Al Khater explained that Dolphin Energy will construct a substantial processing plant in Ras Laffan from 2004 where the company will process Qatari gas for subsequent transport by pipeline to the UAE, commencing in 2006.

He added. “A major Dolphin objective is to support and indeed sponsor environmental activities in Qatar, such as coral preservation. We are grateful to SARC, and to the University of Qatar, for their enthusiasm and their professional contribution on this important matter.”

Dolphin Energy Limited

Dolphin Energy Limited was created to develop substantial energy projects throughout the GCC. Its objective is to create long-term economic wealth and new business opportunities for GCC citizens, far into the future. Dolphin Energy’s major strategic initiative, the Dolphin Project, involves the production and processing of natural gas from Qatar’s North Field, and transportation of the dry gas by sub-sea pipeline across joint UAE-Qatari waters to the UAE, beginning in 2006.

Dolphin Energy’s first initiative, the Al Ain to Fujairah Pipeline, came on stream in January 2004.The pipeline supplies the Fujairah Water and Power Plant on the UAE’s East Coast – initially with natural gas from Oman, and subsequently with Dolphin gas from Qatar. In May 2005, Dolphin began to supply natural gas to the UAE Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. The gas is being delivered via a tie-in near Qidfa between Dolphin’s Al Ain - Fujairah pipeline and the existing Emarat gas pipeline network.

Dolphin Energy is owned 51 percent by Mubadala Development Company, on behalf of the Government of Abu Dhabi – and 24.5 percent each by Total of France and Occidental Petroleum of the USA.
