Workers on Al Ain - Fujairah Pipeline Praised for Safety Achievement in Avoiding ‘Lost Time Injuries’
Dolphin Energy Limited today congratulated workers building the company’s natural gas pipeline from Al Ain to Fujairah on their achievement of one million man-hours without a Lost-Time Injury (LTI).
The project’s contractors are Dodsal Ltd of India. From June 2002, Dodsal assembled and deployed a workforce which has grown to nearly 1,000 men, in order to construct this 205 kilometer, 24-inch pipeline by the end of 4th Quarter 2003.
“We applaud this achievement by our contractors and their workers, who have had to cope with the natural hazards of desert and mountain, as well as difficult weather throughout the spring season,” said Dolphin Energy CEO Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh.
“We have established comprehensive HSE standards for all our contractors. Good HSE management is critical to prevent accidents and protect the workforce, while at the same time preserving the natural environment.“ He added that environmental safe practice on this project included signposting various potentially interesting archaeological sites along the route.
Mr Al Sayegh concluded: “Dodsal’s achievement of this significant HSE milestone shows how Dolphin is promoting the principles of safe working practices through effective HSE management programs, on-site supervision and team spirit.”
On completion, the pipeline will transport up to 135 million cubic feet of gas per day from Oman to the new power and desalination plant of Union Water & Electricity Company (UWEC) in Fujairah for between 3 ½ and 5 years. By 2006, when Dolphin’s new pipeline system from Qatar is in operation, Qatar natural gas will flow directly, via Al Ain, to Fujairah.
Dolphin Energy Limited
Dolphin Energy Limited was created to develop substantial energy projects throughout the GCC. Its objective is to create long-term economic wealth and new business opportunities for GCC citizens, far into the future. Dolphin Energy’s major strategic initiative, the Dolphin Project, involves the production and processing of natural gas from Qatar’s North Field, and transportation of the dry gas by sub-sea pipeline across joint UAE-Qatari waters to the UAE, beginning in 2006.
Dolphin Energy’s first initiative, the Al Ain to Fujairah Pipeline, came on stream in January 2004.The pipeline supplies the Fujairah Water and Power Plant on the UAE’s East Coast – initially with natural gas from Oman, and subsequently with Dolphin gas from Qatar. In May 2005, Dolphin began to supply natural gas to the UAE Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. The gas is being delivered via a tie-in near Qidfa between Dolphin’s Al Ain - Fujairah pipeline and the existing Emarat gas pipeline network.
Dolphin Energy is owned 51 percent by Mubadala Development Company, on behalf of the Government of Abu Dhabi – and 24.5 percent each by Total of France and Occidental Petroleum of the USA.
