Natural Gas

Gas supply to Northern Emirates

Dolphin Energy commenced the business of gas supply in January 2004, with the commissioning of the gas pipeline that connects Al Ain with the UAE’s east coast emirate of Fujairah. . This marked the first transportation and supply of processed natural gas from one GCC nation to another.

Dolphin’s 24 inch, 182 kilometer Al Ain – Fujairah Pipeline (AFP) delivers gas to ADWEC’s power and desalination plants in Fujairah.

Initially all the gas being delivered to Fujairah came from Oman, and was delivered via a tie-in on the UAE-Oman border near Al Ain. From January 2004 to August 2005, an average 135 million standard cubic feet per day of natural gas was imported in this way. Gas has also been supplied to the Federal Electricity and Water Authority and the Ras Al Khaimah Gas Commission on an interruptible basis since May 2005.

The gas supply to FEWA is connected to the Emarat pipeline network that delivers gas to the UAE Northern Emirates. This has been possible through the use of a tie-in near Qidfa through the Emarat gas pipeline network and via Jebel Ali facilities in the Emirate of Dubai.

Since mid-August 2007, gas produced by Dolphin in Qatar has been supplied from Dolphin’s Taweelah Receiving Facilities overland to Al Ain, then north to Fujairah. To complement this, Dolphin commenced the construction of the Taweelah to Fujairah pipeline (TFP) to deliver further gas to Fujairah’s power and desalination plants on the east coast.

In all, 240 kilometers of 48” gas pipeline will be laid over an environmentally approved cross-country route of desert and mountain – one of the longest and largest overland gas pipelines in the UAE. It is designed to carry significant quantities of Dolphin gas via Taweelah directly to the UAE east coast.

Dolphin Energy is working with contractors Stroytransgaz on the construction of the pipeline. The project is on track to finish in the third quarter of 2010 and will deliver much needed natural gas to the area.
