During 2007, Dolphin Energy was extensively involved in the design and planning of a new natural gas pipeline to link its receiving facilities at Taweelah in Abu Dhabi with Fujairah on the UAE’s East Coast. This substantial, 48 inch pipeline will cross some 240 kilometers of the heart of the country – through desert areas of Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah then over the mountains of Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah itself.
‘Invitations to Tenders’ were issued to 9 approved construction bidders in November 2007 – the award will be made in mid-2008. meanwhile, Dolphin Energy announced in December 2007 that the line pipe will be supplied by Salzgitter Mannesmann International of Germany.
The pipeline will supply gas to the upcoming Fujairah 2 Power and Desalination Plant. This will be built next to the existing Fujairah 1 plant at Qidfa, on the Arabian Sea north of Fujairah city, which already receives gas from Dolphin Energy via the company’s Al Ain to Fujairah pipeline.
A detailed Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) was undertaken during 2007 to identify all measures necessary to minimize the impact of the pipeline on the environment and on local communities along its path.
It is expected that the pipeline will be commissioned in 2010.
