The EGDS - From Taweelah

Dolphin Energy supplies its UAE customers with refined methane gas from Qatar, which has been transported to its Taweelah Receiving Facilities in Abu Dhabi through the company’s Export Pipeline.

From there the majority of the natural gas is being supplied to other parts of the UAE, using Dolphin’s Eastern Gas Distribution System (EGDS). The EGDS is also used to transport natural gas to Oman, using a connection with a new Omani pipeline on the Oman border. This connection was put in place in 31 October 2008 and allowed first gas to flow from one GCC nation to another, thus completing the tri-nations gas grid. The EGDS was upgraded by Dolphin during 2006 and 2007 as part of a long term lease agreement with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). This involved the refurbishment and recoating of existing pipelines and the addition of fiber optic cables for communications purposes.

Dolphin EGDS pipelines vary between 18 and 48 inches in diameter. Principal pipeline distances involved are Taweelah to Maqta—48 kilometers; Maqta to Jebel Ali—70 kilometers; Maqta to Al Ain—135 kilometers.
