Twin subsea umbilical lines, which measure 72 and 88 kilometers in length respectively, link offshore platforms DOL-1 and DOL 2 with Dolphin Energy’s Gas Processing Plant at Ras Laffan.
These umbilicals are identical and contain fiber optic strands and stainless steel tubes protected by sheathed steel tubing. They are used for telecoms and data transmission between the platforms and the Plant, and help to facilitate platform control and operations from the onshore central control room.
The stainless steel tubes transport corrosion inhibitor and hydrate inhibitor – liquids used respectively to control corrosion in the sealines and to prevent sealine blockages from gas hydrate formations. They also carry diesel fuel.
