Offshore Platforms

Some 3,000 – 3,600 meters underground, in the extensive “Khuff” zone offshore Qatar’s north-east coast, lies the largest single gas field in the world – North Field. It is gas from North Field which not only powers Qatar’s own LNG and petrochemical plants, but is also the feedstock for Dolphin and its customers.

Dolphin Energy has installed two Offshore Production Platforms, DOL-1 and DOL-2, in its concession area: both platforms are located to the north east of Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City and lie between 70 and 90 kilometers offshore.

Dolphin Energy has installed two Offshore Production Platforms, DOL-1 and DOL-2, in its concession area: both platforms are located to the north east of Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City and lie between 70 and 90 kilometers offshore.

Each platform handles the extraction of gas from 12 wells, making 24 wells in total. These were drilled and tested between 2005 and 2007. At the time full production was achieved early in 2008, each platform was producing some 1.3 billion cubic feet per day (scf/day) of ‘raw’ gas for transportation by dedicated sealines to Ras Laffan for processing.

The jackets on which the platforms are fixed were installed during 2005 by the contractor, J Ray McDermott Middle East. The platforms were constructed by McDermott from 2005 to 2006 at Dubai’s Jebel Ali Industrial City and then lifted onto the jackets in April 2006.
